Course: Young Drivers Big Rigs
Hands-on introduction to the trucking industry, designed to show students what a Commercial Driver License (CDL) is, what professional drivers actually do, and how someone can go from high school to a real, high-demand career in transportation.
Students learn inside a real Center for Transportation environment and rotate through engaging activities that bring the industry to life, including a driving simulator experience, an orientation to the training range, and guided discussions on safety, equipment, and career pathways. The course breaks down the basics in teen-friendly language: different types of trucks and freight, how the CDL system works, what “Class A vs. Class B” means, what drivers earn, and what training and lifestyle look like in the real world.
By the end, students will understand the CDL pathway, the role trucking plays in the economy, and the skills that matter most: attention, responsibility, communication, and safety-first decision-making.
